The Demon will be unleashed next week. But just before all that, it seems the overachievers at Hennessey Performance are ready to send the Demon back to hell by unveiling their own 1000-horsepower Camaro ZL1 Exorcist. Let's check what this so-called Demon slayer is capable of.
It was only a matter of time that Hennessey Performance would build a performance kit for Chevrolet's 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque Camaro ZL1. Perhaps, these Texas tuners were quite excited at vanquishing the Demon even before its full unveiling.
The $55,000 upgrade for Hennessey's Camaro ZL1 Exorcist includes ported factory cylinder heads, higher-flow supercharger, camshaft upgrade, high-flow air-induction system, custom engine management calibration, and long-tube stainless-steel headers. Overall, this has massaged the already potent LT4 V8 engine to an exciting 1000 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 966 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm.
It has a top speed of 220 mph if the engine is mated to an automatic transmission. John Hennessey, Texas tuners' founder and president, claims that the Camaro ZL1 Exorcist's 0-60 mph sprint is just under 3 seconds and its ¼ mile is less than 10 seconds when equipped with the rear drag radial tires. Talk about lightning speed.
"However, The Exorcist is not just a ¼ mile racer. It's a well-rounded super muscle car that is just as happy on a road course as it is on the drag strip and street. Needless to say, this will leave the competition's heads spinning," said Hennessey.
There will only be 100 of these Demon slayers. So, you might want to hurry up and snag one before it all runs out.
But you are warned that slaying the Demon won't come cheap. As mentioned earlier, Hennessey's Camaro ZL1 Exorcist upgrade will cost $55,000 but it comes with a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty.
The upgrade can be done to either the 10-speed automatic or 6-speed manual Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. However, an additional $9,950 worth of improvements is needed for the automatic so that the transmission can withstand the engine's 996 lb.-ft. of torque.
Also, for an additional $8,995, you can get the optional drag pack which is inclusive of driveshaft upgrades, floor jack, and 20-inch wheels with Nitto drag tires. There is also the $6,995 optional road-race with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. But just be sure you already have the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 which has a starting price of $63,435, inclusive of destination and gas guzzler tax.
