Toyota is considered an industry leader but Hyundai is a worthy challenger. The 2017 Toyota Camry is a definite market leader but the 2017 Hyundai Sonata promises to put up a good fight. This could be an epic battle between the Koreans and Japanese, so who wins the competition?
According to The Car Connection, 2017 Hyundai Sonata appears to be leading with 143 votes compared to 2017 Toyota Camry's 67 votes. The former is also winning by a little margin with a ranking of 7.2 points compared to Camry's 7 points. There are several factors which contributed to such rating so it is interesting to see how this battle plays out.
The 2017 Hyundai Sonata is more powerful if one has to stick to its base model. It comes powered by an impressive 185-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. The 2017 Toyota Camry is less powerful getting 178-horsepower from its 2.5-liter engine. The Sonata also leads the battle as it comes with direct-injection technology which the Camry has skipped.
Not to be outdone, however, the 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid has a better mileage of up to 43 mpg in the city. The 2017 Sonata is now offered in a unique Eco model which is considered special for its 1.6-liter turbo-4 and seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Both the 2017 Toyota Camry and 2017 Hyundai Sonata offer an impressive ride and has enough confidence to meet the requirements of the most discerning drivers. Unfortunately for the Sonata, it doesn't fare well in terms of its steering feel. Camry provides more stable ride-and-handling tune as per reports. Camry leads the competition as steering feel is considerably better.
The Camry also has updated the look of its trims. It comes with upgraded seats which give it a classier edge over the Sonata. The Sonata, however, gets the appeal of the more expensive Genesis. While both boast of classy look and feel, the Camry has better headroom for the taller passengers.
As added by Motor Trend, the 2017 Hyundai Sonata has impressive five-star rating from the NHTSA, having five stars in front and side crash and four stars in the rollover. Hyundai also adds new safety feature like the all-new Dynamic Bending Light system which aims the headlights around corners as the driver moves the steering wheel for better night visibility.
Both the 2017 Toyota Camry and 2017 Hyundai Sonata are industry leaders. The Sonata does promise a good competition as it faces Camry head-to-head. Both offer features which give car enthusiasts something to be excited about. In this battle, however, the Koreans wins for being more powerful and having direct-injection which are important features being considered in buying a car.
