The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is coming back with a bang. Hopefully, not the same kind of bang that the Note 7 was infamous for.
According to BGR, the Galaxy Note series is now taboo. While the previous Galaxy Note phablets were well received and highly successful, the Note 7 costs the Korean tech company billions. This was due to the spontaneous combusting of several units worldwide because of battery issues. While only less than 10% of the Note 7's were affected, Samsung decided to do a global recall.
Due to the incident, there was plenty of speculation in the past that the Galaxy Note name would be dropped altogether. However, according to the Korean tech giant, popular opinion revealed that users would still patronize a new Note 8.
With so much pressure on their hands, Samsung decided not to unveil the Samsung Galaxy S8 at the Mobile World Congress 2017. Additionally, the company has given no official word about the latest phablet.
In the same report by BGR, the in-house codename for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is apparently "Great." Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come. However the site also noted, could the Korean tech giant just be trying a Jedi mind trick to confuse the world? That remains to be seen.
While the Note 8 is still set to be released later this year, it will face stiff competition. In the past, the Galaxy Note series was very popular because it had a larger display. The upcoming iPhone 8 is rumored to have a 5.8-inch OLED display. In addition, other top Android smartphones like the Google Pixel XL, Huawei Mate 9, and the LG V20 are all great phablets.
In another report by Android Authority, the international variant of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will use the model number: SM-N950F. This follows the Galaxy Note 7's number: SM-N930F. However, the number 4 does not appear because it is considered unlucky in South Korea.
In addition, there are also rumors about refurbished Note 7 devices being distributed again. Apparently, Samsung could sell refurbished Note 7 handsets with 3,000 to 3,200 mAh batteries in emerging markets like Vietnam and India. However, these reports have yet to be confirmed.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will reportedly feature a 4K curved infinity display and could have a 256 GB variant. It may also have a Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6 GB of RAM, dual-lens camera, and a better battery life. Additionally, it is also expected to have an iris scanner, S-Pen with speakers, and a 6.2 to 6.4-inch display.
