Samsung's latest Galaxy Note 8 will still come out later this year. But will it still use the Note 8 name?
Samsung Note 7. Last year, Samsung spent a lot of money recalling their Note 7 units. The last generation phablets had battery problems that resulted in them exploding. While only a few of the units were reportedly affected, the Korean tech giant decided to recall all of the units to be on the safe side.
Forbes' Gordon Kelly reported that the Galaxy Note 7 was not the best smartphone in 2016, but its battery explosions should not take the entire Note name down. The new Note 8 will likely have a game-changing 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) AMOLED display, VR capability, and new "Bixby" assistant.
The last report about the Samsung Note 8 revealed that the new phablet will still be launched later this year. It will come after the Galaxy S8 launch sometime in April. In addition, the new phablet has an internal codename of "Baikal" and could use Sony batteries.
According to a recent report by WCCFTech, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 may have a different name altogether. However, the Korean tech company has released little to no information about this because they have been too busy with their Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. This news came from trusted Chinese microblogging site Weibo. According to the leak, the new name may focus on the device's "pen."
The Note 8 will likely have an S Pen accessory. But apart from knowing that the new name may involve this pen, there are no other insights on what the name could be. In addition, the same report also suggested that the new Note could also have a more powerful version of the Exynos 9 series chipset.
