The iMac is one of Apple's products have somehow been forgotten with attention being more focused on its mobiles devices such as the iPhone and the iPad. Despite the tech company's lack of attention towards its desktop computer, there are speculations saying that Apple will be releasing the iMac 2017 with a better processor and graphics card.
Apple to release the iMac 2017 with a better processor and graphics card. Initially, the new iMac was speculated to sport Intel's seventh generation Kaby Lake processors. With the recent launch of the Ryzen 7 processor chips, new speculations are saying that Apple will be switching over to AMD for the new iMac.
The Ryzen 7, upon its release, was able to set a new benchmark record with amazing performance per watt. Compared to Intel's i7 processor, it is 30 percent more power-efficient and slightly better in terms of performance. The Ryzen 7's combination of power-efficiency and performance is enough of a reason for any tech company using Intel's chips to switch over to AMD.
If Apple does stick to Intel's Kaby Lake processors for the new iMac, the company will still be using AMD's graphics chips for it. This is supported by an existing contract between the Cupertino-based tech giant and AMD which was signed in October of last year. The contract between the two firms involves two of AMD's Polaris graphics cards namely the Radeon Polaris 10 and the Radeon Polaris 11. It should be expected that Apple will be using any of the two graphics chips in future desktop and laptop computers.
Speculated features of the new iMac include a 27.0-inch 5k display just like the current iMac, 32 gigabytes of memory, and 2-terabyte Fusion Drive. Other speculations claim that desktop computer will sport virtual reality capabilities using AMD's Radeon Polaris graphics chips. The iMac 2017 could possibly be priced at US$3,199.99.
