Jason Isaacs, popularly known over the years as Lucious Malfoy of the "Harry Potter" series, joins the crew of Starship Discovery, as their captain. But for the first time in history, the captain is not the main lead of the series.
CBS recently confirmed that they cast Jason Isaacs to play Captain Lorca. He is one of the most high-profile names to join the twice-delayed series. Despite filling in some big shoes, Isaacs isn't the lead character in "Star Trek: Discovery." The crown has been passed on to his first Number One, Lieutenant Commander Rainsford, played by "The Walking Dead" Sonequa Martin-Green.

Release date. "Star Trek: Discovery" will run for 13 episodes, but it doesn't have an official specific air date as of this writing. According to the HollywoodReporter, CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves pointed out that the series is going to possibly hit the TV screens in the late summer or early fall.
The show was originally set to air January 2017. However, a series of unfortunate events pushed the launch date further to May. And then on top of that, it was again pushed back for a second time.
Bryan Fuller, the show's original showrunner, left last October and difficulties in casting and "behind-the-scenes" flux were among the series of unfortunate events causing the show's delay.
Variety reported that during an investor conference, Leslie Moonves said: "It's important to get it right, and 'Star Trek' is the family jewels," assuring the quality of the series. The report added that massive post-production process added to the show's delay.
"Star Trek: Discovery" will be featuring a new ship with new characters facing new missions. But they will still be embracing the same ideology and hope for the future and facing dramatic contemporary themes, which has inspired generations.
Jason Isaacs joins "The Walking Dead" actress Sonequa Martin-Green, James Frain as Spock's father Sarek, Michelle Yeoh as the captain in charge of the Starship Shenzhou, and Anthony Rapp as a space fungus expert. Sam Vartholomeos is also part of the cast and will be playing as Ensign Connor, alongside Maulik Pancholy as Dr. Nambue, and Terry Serpico as Admiral Anderson.
