OnePlus 5, or OnePlus 4 as others may call, may very well be the next unit that can rival giants as Samsung and Apple. But many have debating device's name and when its official release date will be. Here is a rundown of what we actually know so far.
We thought that there wouldn't be any specific news regarding the next-generation OnePlus device until perhaps around May or June of this year. But it seems updates regarding its release date and official name have crept up on top to be detected by avid fans of OnePlus.

So, why is it not dubbed OnePlus 4? Basing on culture, it would be understandable that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, which is headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, would omit the specific number 4 and jump to 5.
Number 4 is considered an unlucky number in Chinese tradition. This is because 4 is nearly homophonous to the word "death" or "decease. " So, naming the next flagship device as "OnePlus 5" is a likely scenario.
OnePlus wouldn't be the only Chinese company to have skipped number 4 in its lineup. Remember Canon's PowerShot G series? They released G3 and then jumped to G5. This is almost a similar scenario with Western cultures wherein there isn't a 13th floor as it is considered unlucky. So, you get the picture.
OnePlus doesn't have a pattern of release. Unlike Apple that announces its new iPhone units on September 7 and launches it a few weeks later and Samsung that usually unveils its smartphones at the MWC (except Galaxy S8), OnePlus doesn't have a specific launch scheduled of its devices.
Note that OnePlus 3 was launched in June 2016. Before that, OnePlus 2 was launched in July 2015, and OnePlus One in April of 2014. We could probably expect OnePlus 5 to be unveiled following the MWC and be on sale no later than June or July 2017, according to PCAdvisor.
Specs. There isn't really much to reveal about OnePlus 5's specs as official information haven't been released by the manufacturer as of this writing. What we can find so far are purely speculations, rumors, and so-called "leaks."
And there is no official confirmation whether or not the circulating rumors are true. But we could all wait until the company finally makes its official announcement and unveil the soon-to-be Samsung killer, OnePlus 5.
