A Nissan Rogue X-Wing was the highlight of the Japanese automobile manufacturer's Chicago Auto Show experience. The entire booth was heavily Star Wars-themed complete with scale replica models and actual 501st Stormtroopers!
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is reported to be the highest-grossing film released in 2016. The story is an epic space opera film that is the Star Wars franchise's first standalone film. It chronicles the story of the team of Rebels who risked it all to infiltrate the Imperial base in Scarif to steal the Death Star plans. "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" takes place right after the Rogue One story.
Chicago Auto Show. Either Nissan is capitalizing on the movie's success or their team is filled with Star Wars geeks because once again, they opted for a Star Wars-themed booth. Once again, their Nissan Rogue X-Wing took center stage.
Auto Blog has reported that apart from the "Rogue-Wing," there is a huge inflatable Death Star hanging in the rafters. Scale replica models of the TIE Striker, Y-Wing Starfighter, the AT-ACT, and the X-Wing Starfighter are also hanging around. Best of all, they have actual 501st Stormtroopers going around to take photos with the audience.
Nissan "Rogue-Wing". The Rogue X-Wing SUV is a full-sized modified vehicle. It adds exterior engines and a custom paint job that gives the Rogue SUV a look from a galaxy far, far away.
According to a Tech Crunch writer who is also an avid Star Wars fan, the vehicle has fake weathering and scoring on its paint job. This makes it look like it has really lived in the sandy deserts found in much of the Star Wars universe. It also has an R2 unit poking out on top which gives fans more nostalgia, especially after the recent loss of Kenny Baker who played the beloved droid in the original trilogy.
Unfortunately, the Nissan Rogue X-Wing is only a display model at the Chicago Auto Show. Fans can visit the show during the weekends of Feb. 11-12 and Feb. 18-19 for photo ops of both the Rogue-Wing and the other Star Wars memorabilia, including the roving Stormtroopers.
