Mitsubishi Outlander Sibling is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show. It is a sporty SUV with a sophisticated coupe-like design very similar to the XR PHEV concept.
Geneva Motor Show. The Japanese automaker plans to unveil their latest compact SUV in Geneva this March. Their latest model is positioned between its Outlander and Outlander Sport.
Mitsubishi has released a partial teaser photo earlier this week. The vehicle looks sporty but with a coupe-like finish, very similar to the BMW X6. It looks very refined and elegant compared to the ruggedness of the Outlander.
The front of the vehicle looks very much like the current Outlander, but the rear end of the vehicle has vertical taillights that look very much like the XR PHEV concept. This car over originally released during the 2015 Geneva car show.
Mitsubishi claims that the car's styling is based on the stunning XR concept mostly. It has the same sloping roofline and chiseled nose. The vehicle's coupe-like lines also give it a very refined and sophisticated finish.
It has also been reported that there will be a new 1.5-liter turbo with CVT box and four-wheel drive. The new four-cylinder engine has a sharp throttle response that is smooth and refined. There will also be a 2.2-liter diesel engine as well as six-speed manual and front-drive options.
What is the Name of the New SUV? Officially, the new Mitsubishi Outlander sibling remains unnamed. Considering that it will be between the Outlander and the Outlander Sport, it could very well be given an "Outlander" name like the Outlander Coupe. However, this is currently all speculation.
There have been some reports that the Japanese automobile manufacturer will be naming the new SUV the "Eclipse." For Mitsubishi and sports car enthusiasts, they know that the name Eclipse is one of the automaker's previous sports cars. This was reported by AutoExpress who got exclusive access to a development prototype.
The Eclipse name is a longshot but it is the first reported named that has been revealed. Could AutoExpress have been fed false information to throw the public off or did they accidentally reveal something that was a secret? Either way, the world can expect that the name of this new SUV will be unveiled this March at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new Mitsubishi Outlander sibling looks to be very promising. Whether or not it really will be named the "Eclipse" won't make much of a difference to its beautiful and elegant styling.
