With the recent successes that Alfa Romeo has been celebrating on the Giulia sedan and the Stelvio SUV, the company is about to unveil another model to add to its growing lineup. The new car that will be uncovered in the Geneva Motor Show in March will be a coupe version of the Giulia to be known as Giulia Sprint.
According to TopSpeed, the Giulia Sprint will be a midsize car that will actually be a 2-door version of the Giulia sedan. The car is already being positioned to go up against industry leaders BMW 4 Series Coupe, the Audi 5 Coupe and Mercedes C-Class Coupe. The Giulia sprint will probably evolve into a convertible version which is planned to be known as Giulia Spider.
Since the new models will carry the Giulia brand, it is natural to assume that they will be powered by the 2.2-liter diesel engine or the 2.0-liter and a four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The 2.9-liter V-6 twin turbo currently being used in the highly regarded Giulia Qudrifolgio is also a possibility for a Giulia Sprint QV that can compete with BMW M4, Audi RS 5 or Mercedes AMG C63 Coupe.
Alfa Romeo's expansion plan includes the introduction of eight car models based on the Giulia platform by 2020. The plan includes the Giulia Sprint models and a rear drive car slated to replace the Giulietta hatchback of the past era.
Alfa Romeo has always been a legendary brand name in the car industry but there came a time when the cars bearing the brand were no longer holding its own in the car market. There was a quick change of fortune when the company started to build cars using the Giorgio platform on which the now successful Giulia and Stelvio cars are based.
The new coupe and convertible Giulia Sprint car models have a fair chance to compete against the three European cars and Asian brand Lexus in the compact luxury car market. Alfa Romeo hopes to make a statement when it unveils the new Giulia Sprint at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017.
