Three drivers that ran Ford GT development mules were pulled over at Avon, Colorado for violating speed limits within the area. It was reported that the cars were running at a whopping 100 miles per hour wherein a state trooper urged them to stop when such received reports of the violations.
According to an Eagle County sheriff, the Ford GT test drivers were caught red handed running at 101 mph in a 50 mph zone which made them accountable for a court summons. It was also reiterated that anything over 20 mph of the speed limit would be forced to appear in court as remedy to their actions.
As reported by Jalopnik, the Ford GT test drivers were about 37 miles west of Avon, 100 miles west of Denver, Colorado, when they were apprehended. The drivers did not desist the arrest and were said to be heading through Colorado for a high altitude testing. The source manifested that they have called Ford regarding the incident but have not received any information from the company with regards to the matter.
Furthermore, the area where the Ford GT test drivers ran through was a wide-open straight shot with a 75-mph speed limit with 65 mph limit in tighter areas. The state trooper who caught up with the drivers were said to be in no position to initiate the stop since it was still outside of their jurisdiction. However, they called in reinforcements to address the speeding violation of the drivers and eventually pulled over at Avon PD's jurisdiction.
In other news, Auto Blog reported that the vehicles had data-collecting equipment which the company had been using to determine finishing touches to the vehicles before they were released in the market. Furthermore, the Ford GT cars were said to have been powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that is capable of generating 600 horsepower. With top speed recorded at 200 mph, the report indicated that the vehicles could have gone faster when they were apprehended.
The Ford GT test drivers may have driven high-performance vehicles but the Avon Police Department showed them that under the rule of law, speed has its limits.
