The 2017 Ford GT is just one of more than 12 new Performance vehicles that are coming by 2020 from Ford. Along with the GT are the growing Ford Performance lineup such as Focus RS, F-150 Raptor, Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R.
The EcoBoost performance, aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fiber construction are just the smart and impressive features that the all-new car showcases. Production of this GT started in the late part of 2016 and hit the road in selected markets globally to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary of their GT racing cars that placed 1-2-3 during the 24 Hours of Le Mans, back in 1966.
"As we at Ford drive innovation into every part of our business, it's worth remembering that our first innovation as a company was not in a laboratory, but on the racetrack," Ford President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Fields said, referring to the 1901 car race won by Henry Ford that inspired financial investment in his company. "We are passionate about innovation through performance and creating vehicles that make people's hearts pound."
The company has always been committed to its capabilities in providing technologies that are typically offered only on elite vehicles that are evident in the 2017 Ford GT. The car's advanced active aerodynamics comes with a host of material and a deployable rear spoiler along with the SYNC 3, which is the latest version of Ford's advanced connectivity system that provides a better assistance to the driver.
The company's team of creative engineers went on an extensive use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum for an exceptional handling and acceleration with an improved efficiency. This all-new supercar also features a mid-mounted engine, a two-door coupe body shell and a rear-wheel driving system.
The 2017 Ford GT is powered by the most powerful produced EcoBoost engine, specifically, a next-generation twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6, which produces more than 600 of horsepower. According to Ford's Group Vice President of Global Product Development Raj Nair, this car model is the ultimate execution of an enthusiast supercar.
