The British car show "Fifth Gear" will reportedly no longer have another series, and the host of the hit TV show, Tiff Needell, seem to have validated the reports.
The news came after it has been announced that Chris Evans will be starring in "Top Gear" while the network Amazon will have a rival show called "The Grand Tour" featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.
Although the news about "Fifth Gear" no longer having another series is not yet confirmed, Auto Blog reported that Needell took to Twitter to say the following: "So busy enjoying Mille Miglia forgot to point out @FifthGearTV on @ITV4 on Friday was last one ever recorded. And no news of any more..." He followed his tweet with the statement that says it feels weird for him to not have any filming dates in his diary as he did both "Top Gear" and "Fifth Gear" for the past 29 years.
The racing driver started with "Fifth Gear" in 2001 but before that, he appeared on "Top Gear" for 14 years. His co-presenter, Jonny Smith, took the news lightly and responded to Needell's tweet. He wrote: "You need a new show Tiff. Let's call it The Needell For Speed. Please." The other co-presenter of the British series, Vicky Butler-Henderson, did not react to the news yet.
It has been reported that the show has been struggling to find commissions so it is possible that it will no longer continue filming a new series, Digital Trends reported.
"Fifth Gear" aired on Britain's ITV commercial television network and it was quite different from "Top Gear." It focused on straightforward car reviews as opposed to the stunts that its rival show focuses on. This is not the first time that the show will be cancelled as it was off air briefly back in 2009.
The network will still confirm if the statements of Needell are true. The new version of "Top Gear" will premiere next week while "The Grand Tour" will begin to air later this year.
