Mazda will unveil its new compact crossover SUV, the Mazda CX-3, next month at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The automaker has released a single teaser sketch of the CX-3 however, which shows a sleek vehicle with a long hood, muscular wheel arches and raked windshield.
"The Mazda CX-3 is the latest model in Mazda's line-up of new-generation products featuring the full range of SKYACTIV technology and KODO - Soul of Motion designs," the automaker said in its announcement. "In pursuing a design of beauty and sophistication, the essence of KODO - the expression of life within a vehicle - has been evolved to produce a sharper form with an enhanced sense of speed."
The CX-3 joins the automaker's growing crossover lineup, which includes the Fiat 500X, Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-9.
The CX-3, which is expected to reach dealerships next year, will compete against small SUVs like the Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V, and Jeep Renegade.
An official release date has not been announced yet.
Mazda's brand-new MX-5 roadster is expected to be on hand at the LA event as well.
The engine line will be tailored to each market, with either a 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G petrol engine tuned exclusively for the all-new Mazda MX-5. Engines are mounted longitudinally for its rear-wheel drive configuration, according to Mazda.
Models sold in North America will be the only to be fitted with the Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre gasoline engine. The new CX-3 will be the fifth car from the automaker that will make use of Mazda's Skyactiv powertrain and Kodo design language.
An updated 2016 Mazda 6 is also expected at the LA event as well.
The LA Auto Show is open to the public from Nov. 21-30. Press days are scheduled to take place Nov. 18 through 20.
Mazda will hold its press conference on Nov. 19 from 10:30 through 10:55 a.m. (local time.)
