The Apple vs. Samsung drama continued Tuesday as the two tech giants delivered closing arguments to end a month-long trial round for alleged copyright infringement, Reuters reported.
The companies, each of which has accused the other of stealing smartphone ideas, have been sparring for almost three years in an international court battle. In 2012, Apple was awarded $930 billion in damages after a San Jose, Calif., trial; however, the company did not succeed in securing a permanent injunction to halt the sale of Samsung phones.
Apple is looking to stop sales of nine Samsung smartphones and one Galaxy tablet as well as demanding $2.2 billion in damages, The Associated Press reported. On its part, Samsung wants $6 million in damages and claims Apple infringed on two of its patents to develop the iPhone.
A Samsung attorney said in Tuesday's court session that Apple had an exaggerated portrayal of the importance of the mobile phone features in question. On the other hand, Apple contended that Samsung only entered the smartphone market, making it a two-company race, by stealing Apple innovations.
Several Apple engineers were called to the stand, but none of Samsung's software executives were brought in to testify.
"None of them were brave enough to come here and face cross examination," said Apple attorney Harold McElhinny, as quoted by Reuters.
Apple has listed these Samsung products as infringements on Apple patents: Admire, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy SII Skyrocket, Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Tab II 10.1 and Stratosphere, as earlier reported by the AP and other media.
On the other hand, Samsung has accused these Apple products of infringing on Samsung patents: iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad mini, iPod touch (fifth generation), iPod touch (fourth generation) and MacBook Pro.
