Ford has confirmed its new 2014 Ford Fusion recently earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The 2014 Fusion received five stars in front crash tests and four stars in the side and rollover crash tests.
The rating applies to the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, according to the automaker.
NHTSA has not yet rated the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid.
The 2014 Ford Fusion Energi, which is the plug-in option of the Fusion Hybrid, also earned a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.
The Energi received five stars in front and side impact tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.
The 2014 Fusion was also named a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Ford also recently announced that its new Fusion received "Good" ratings in every IIHS crash tests but one, according to Ford. The vehicle earned an "Acceptable" rating in the small overlap front crash test.
Standard safety features found on the Fusion includes antilock brakes, traction control, stability control, and seven airbags, like a driver knee airbag.
New optional features include inflatable rear outboard seatbelts, according to Ford.
The 2014 Fusion competes with similar vehicles like the Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima.
