Mazda models topped two lists in the annual Best Cars for the Money Awards from U.S. News & World Report.
Released this week, the yearly list put the redesigned 2014 Mazda3 at No. 1 in the Compact Car category and the 2014 Mazda5 in the top spot in the Minivan group, said a Mazda press release.
The publication looked at 225 vehicles to compile this year's list, which includes 21 categories. The autos are awarded based on quality and value as measured by the U.S. News car ranking and the car's average price and cost of ownership over five years.
"Finding a great car that's also a great deal is a challenge," Jamie Page Deaton, managing editor of U.S. News Best Cars, said in the press release. "Our awards are designed to help consumers identify great value cars that have also received critical acclaim and high safety and reliable scores. A good value car doesn't have to be boring--cars with the latest features, great performance and comfortable interiors can also be smart financial choices."
The third-generation Mazda3 features an all-new vehicle connectivity system, a driving display and pre-crash detection. The compact car starts at $16,945 for the four-door model and at $18,495 for the five-door, according to the press release.
The six-passenger Mazda5, which won for the third year in a row, offers the ultimate "minivan flexibility and compact car agility," said the press release. Starting at $20,140 for the entry-level Sport trim, the Mazda5 has three rows of fold-flat seating and hidden storage trays as well as optional features including leather-trimmed seats.
"We are honored to receive this latest distinction from U.S. News & World Report," Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, said in the press release. "To see not only our all-new vehicles but also our carryover models be recognized as the best in their segments is a testament to the quality, reliability and value of our vehicle lineup but also an absolute win-win for ever-discerning car buyers."
