Selena Gomez has canceled the Australian leg of her first world tour, citing the need to take some time for herself.
"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," the 21-year-old pop star said in a statement. "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."
Gomez recently performed at 55 dates across America and Europe as part of her "Stars Dance" tour, PEOPLE reported.
The tour promoting her fourth record wrapped on Nov. 26. The "Come and Get It" singer had originally planned to make five stops in Australia early next year in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, according to MTV News.
A source reportedly close to the actress and singer told PEOPLE that Gomez is "in a great space" and excited to spend the holiday season with her family.
"She's been on the road for six months and she's just ready to be normal and at home with her family," the source said. "She's been working nonstop since she was 15 and wants to take a minute to herself."
Gomez, who rose to fame on Disney Channel hit "The Wizards of Waverly Place," has also said she wants to take a break from music after churning out four albums in four years.
"This is my last record for a while," she said during a recent press conference for action flick "Getaway," as reported by Us Weekly. I'm going to tour it and then I'm going to just kind of get into acting for a really long period of time, hopefully."
