The Ford Mustang has been selected by Cars.com users to receive the Shoppers' Choice Award.

Now in its 50th year of production, the Mustang beat out nine other finalists: Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Silverado, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and Ram 1500, according to a press release.

The top 10 finalists were selected based on searches for car listings, consumer reviews and contact with dealers, and the winner was chosen after fans voted on the Cars.com Facebook page.

"The Ford Mustang remains a favorite among shoppers," Patrick Olsen, Cars.com's editor-in-chief, said in the press release. "In its fiftieth year of production, the Mustang continues to be a sports car icon, and perhaps Ford's most recognizable car ever. It is an American classic beloved by so many Americans, and the devotion to that car showed in the voting results."

The Mustang will be formally recognized next month at the North American International Auto Show as part of the Best of 2014 Awards.

The 2015 model, which will be the first Ford Mustang to be sold in Europe and Asia, was unveiled on "Good Morning America" last week.

Brand officials believe the time-tested car could definitely be in the running for the Shoppers' Choice Award again.

"The Mustang has made an appearance on the Shoppers' Choice finalist list several times, and even won the award in 2010," said Olsen. "With a redesigned version coming very soon, there's certainly potential for more Mustang wins in the future."

The North American International Auto Show will be held Jan. 13-26 in Detroit. It is slated to feature 71 vehicle debuts that include 61 worldwide introductions, according to the show's website. The event will also host the Michelin Challenge Design and the EyesOn Design Awards.
