Kia is recalling 79,867 Kia Sedona vehicles in the United States over a corrosion issue in cold-weather states, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall affects vehicles released for the 2006-'12 model years and were built from June 15, 2005 through August 14, 2005.
In the affected Sedonas, the front lower control arms could break due to corrosion from continued exposure to salty environments.
"A broken control arm can result in the loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem.
Kia said to safety regulators it has received approximately 26 complaints about the problem, but has yet to receive any reports of injuries.
The recall affects vehicles currently registered in: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.
Kia dealers are being instructed to either replace the lower control arms or rustproof them, according to the NHTSA.
