The highly-anticipated iMac 2017 is set to release later this year. The ultra-thin all-in-one desktop computer is rumored to come out with an 8K Retina display and an Intel Cannon Lake processor.
In a report by Entertainment News Access, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the Cupertino company was committed to its iMac and had more great desktops on the way. In particular, he stated that the iMac was the company's best desktop as it is "very strategic" for Apple.
Previously, it was reported back at the CES 2017 that the new Apple desktop will have a Kaby Lake processor. However, recent reports suggest that it could have the latest Intel Cannon Lake Core processor.
The report went on to state that the newest evolution of Intel's Core processors, the Cannon Lake, could find its way to the new iMac. However, if this were to happen, it would likely be pushed back to 2018.
Intel has yet to release the Coffee Lake processor later this year. The upcoming processor is reportedly 15 percent faster than the current Kaby Lake. The upcoming Cannon Lake processor won't be available this year.
In another report by the Cult of Mac, another report has been circulating that the new iMac 2017 could have an 8K Retina display! While Apple did amaze the competition last year with a 5K Retina iMac display, an 8K Retina display is a bit of a stretch.
The news came from Apple's display partner LG. The Korean tech company claimed that a super-high resolution Apple iMac will be hitting stores later this year. The full quote from LG stated the following:
"It has become clear that Japan is planning to launch an 8K SHV test broadcast and then promptly restructure the UHD service. Apple has also announced that they will release the 'iMac 8K' with a super-high resolution display later this year. Korea is also preparing to offer an 8K service demonstration at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. LG Display displayed a new beacon of the 8K era by revealing their 98-inch 8K Color Prime Ultra HDTV at CES 2015."
