The upcoming 2018 BMW X2 will usher in a new era of styling language for the BMW. And it seems this sporty-looking crossover is shaping up to be one of the best designs crafted by Munich. But is this really a car worth waiting for?
Since its initial preview, in concept form, at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, a number of prototypes have hit the road for real-life testing. And it is no question that spy shots are plenty to go around.

So, how different is the X2 from the X1 if it is indeed a rebodied derivative of the X1? First, the resemblance of the X2 to the X1 is because the X2 is built atop the BMW UKL platform, which is similar to the Europe-market 2-series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer and the entire Mini lineup.
However, you won't notice the difference immediately, unless you put the two cars side by side. The 2018 BMW X2 has a tucked rear end with a more aggressive lower but narrower roofline towards the C-pillar and is smaller, although it resembles a crossover mixed with the sportier styling of the X1.
CarAndDriver labels the 2018 BMW X2 as "slightly less practical and more sporty-looking." Let's put it this way, it is like a red-head Rihanna to a natural Rihanna or an X6 to an X5 or an X4 to an X3.
Its powertrain could be the BMW's turbocharged 2.0-liter three or four-cylinder engines delivering more than 200 horsepower. For Europe, it is expected that they will be getting the 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-liter diesel in the base models. And perhaps, every X2 will have AWD capability, reports BMWBlog. However, the question now is if this bad boy will ever make it to US shores?
Estimated base price for the 2018 BMW X2 is around $38,000, which is apparently $2000 above an xDrive-equipped X1. This sportier-looking sedan could come early 2018.
Set to compete against the likes of Infiniti QX30, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA, we will soon see how the 2018 BMW X2 will rise to the occasion. Well, what could go wrong with a model that is close enough to the X1?
