The battle for the best luxury midsized SUV continues as 2017 BMW X5 and 2017 Porsche Cayenne face each other off. These two are considered two of the best in luxury but there is absolutely room for one at the top. Industry experts have given their insights so the eventual winner is then revealed.
According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2017 Porsche Cayenne is definitely more than just a car. The midsized SUV combines performance, style, luxury, and cutting-edge technology. It is also considered highly functional so spending big bucks for this luxury ride becomes worth it. All models come with eight-speed automatic and AWD. But it is impressive as there are six engines to choose from which definitely will suit any requirements of the most discerning buyers.
The 2017 Porsche Cayenne has 3.6-liter V6 which can produce 300-horsepower, 295 pound-feet of torque and fuel economy of 19/24 mpg. The 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 of the Cayenne S is able to produce 420-horsepower, 406 pound-feet of torque and fuel economy at 17/24 mpg. Completing the first half is 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 of Cayenne GTS producing 440-horsepower, 442 pound-feet of torque and fuel economy of 16/23 mpg.
Others are for Cayenne S E-Hybrid having 416-horsepower, 435 pound-feet of torque and 22 mpg. It gets more powerful with Cayenne Turbo and Cayenne Turbo S with both producing 500-horsepower and over 500 pound-feet of torque. Its interior is considered the best in the world which combines incredible aesthetics with finely stitched leather and real wood and metal accents. It also boasts of 16-speaker Burmester audio system and in-vehicle connectivity.

The Cayenne also boasts of muscular appeal best-suited for those who crave for an appeal centered on bravado and strength. The appeal also suggests its speed and impressive performance altogether.
On the other hand, according to Auto Blog, the 2017 BMW X5 stays true to BMW characteristic style and feel. Just like the 2017 Porsche Cayenne, it boasts of excellent materials. Infotainment system is also topnotch. The front occupants are separated by a wide console which can be used as an additional storage. However, taller drivers and passengers may not have ample headroom unless the seats are reclined.
The 2017 BMW X5 M comes with a V-8 engine producing 567-horsepower and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just four seconds. Though the X5 is packed with power, it is considered weak in its fuel economy. The X5 sDrive35i is rated 18/25 mpg for city and highway or 21 mpg combined. As expected, the twin-turbo V-8 slashes EPA ratings to 15/21 mpg for city and highway or 17 mpg combined.
The 2017 BMW X5 looks like its smaller version, the X3. Having been compared to its smaller sibling is a good thing as it hides the bulk. The twin-port grille flows into the headlights and roof rails are also added for more cargo space. More space can fit as the upper half of the tailgate can be left open while the lower half remains closed which is perfect for longer cargo like surfboards and ladders. The lower half can also be used as seats for tailgating.
Both luxury midsized SUVs are top of the class and boasts of much-needed luxury and class. It offers top notch features both in and out and as well as under the hood. However, since fuel economy is of the essence recently, the 2017 Porsche Cayenne is considered better as its EPA ratings are considerably better than that of the 2017 BMW X5.
