Subcompact crossovers are considered as the fastest-selling vehicles in the US, and the luxury brands are also giving its impressive contributions. The 2017 BMW X1 and 2017 Audi Q3 are two of the best luxury crossover SUVs and it is easy to understand why. However, since apparently there is no room for two number ones, the battle for the best luxury crossover continues to see which reigns supreme.
According to New Cars, passenger comfort is definitely an important factor to consider especially for a crossover SUV. One of the purposes for an American buyer patronizing this type of vehicle is for its wider body and spacious interior. In this aspect, 2017 BMW X1 takes home the prize for offering extra more space for a little bit more stretching compared to 2017 Audi Q3. The 2017 BMW X1 will especially be well-received by taller drivers and passengers because it has greater front and legroom than the 2017 Audi Q3.
Power is also an important consideration for the discerning buyer. In this aspect, the 2017 BMW X1 again wins the round. Its turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine is responsible for bringing in 228-horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This is better compared to 2017 Audi Q3's turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine which can only generate 200-horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque.
In terms of handling, the 2017 Audi Q3 is considerably larger compared to the 2017 BMW X1 so turning and negotiating sharp curves is a little bit more challenging. Issues may be encountered with the 2017 Audi Q3 especially for inexperienced drivers trying to weave their way out of traffic, immediately being able to park, or just dealing with tight spots. Clearly, handling is better with the 2017 BMW X1.

Cargo load is also as important as the number of passengers the crossover can sit. Cargo space for 2017 X1 is considerably larger than that of 2017 Q3. The Q3's 16.2 cubic feet of cargo space is no match to X1's 27.1 cubic feet of space and even more generous when seats are folded down giving a total of 58.7 cubic feet. In this round, the 2017 BMW X1 wins.
However, the 2017 Audi Q3 is considered fuel efficient in its class according to The Car Connection. It also promises a comfortable ride and flexible cabin. For those who are a more practical luxury buyer (if that ever makes sense), the 2017 Audi Q3 is a better option as its invoice price is $29,574 compared to 2017 BMW X1's $31,285 price tag. It also got a higher rating from the site with 6.5 points as compared to X1's 6.2 grade.
However, the Q3 is considered more of a hatchback than an SUV and has lackluster fuel economy as its front-wheel drive version registers 20 mpg city, 29 highway, and 23 combined models at 20/28/23 mpg. The X1 is considerably better as it is 23 mpg city, 32 highway, and 26 combined with four-wheel drive and 22/31/25 mpg with all-wheel drive.
Since important factors have already been dissected, clearly the 2017 BMW X1 is a mile better compared to 2017 Audi Q3. However, it is also important to note that the 2017 Audi Q3 is one great SUV as well. It may not have fared well with the X1, but it surely is one of the best performing crossover SUVs which can easily beat others.
