The BMW X7 is set to release later this year or next year. Originally a 2017 model, it could eventually be released as a 2018 or 2019 model.
The upcoming SUV was first announced back in 2014. It has already been seen testing in several parts of the globe.
The X7 will be a seven seater. While the BMW X5 has an available third row, it is small and cramped. The X7 seeks to remedy this. It is a full-size SUV which packs luxury features and will feature a standard third-row seat that can comfortably seat most adults.
According to a report by Car and Driver, the BMW X7 is a valuable addition to the German automaker's lineup. It will be the carmaker's first real full-size SUV that will go up against the offerings of other luxury car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac. This big and bold top-of-the-line BMW crossover is big enough to fit the whole family and much more.
The new full-size SUV will be based off a variant of the "cluster architecture" (CLAR) platform. This was first introduced on the current 7 Series limousine and new 5 Series. It is a comfort-oriented chassis which sets the base for a luxury cruiser.
Moreover, BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive will likely be the standard across all trims levels. In addition, it probably won't come ready-equipped with off-road equipment such as low-range transfer case and locking differentials. Hopefully, options will be provided for this in the future.
The X7's engine lineup will likely closely mirror the current 7 Series sedans. It could very well have a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine which is capable of 320 horsepower for its base model. The range-topper could also be a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with around 445 horsepower. In addition, both diesel and hybrid-electric models are also expected to make it to the lineup. Some sources even speculate that a V-12 model could be produced in markets like Russia.
According to several reports by BMW Blog, the upcoming SUV has been spotted testing several times. The same report also stated that it will be comparable to the Range Rover and will see trim levels that challenge it. It will be the largest vehicle ever made by BMW and could even be the most luxurious!
The BMW X7 was expected to hit production this year, but there has been no confirmation that it has begun. The most likely estimate is that it will be available by 2019. Stay tuned for more details about this upcoming luxury SUV.
