The BMW X5 2017 is a large SUV that features powerful engines. The X5 is one of the most fuel efficient SUVs in the market and very easy to drive.
Pros and Features. The BMW X5 2017 has high-quality interior and a very spacious cabin. It has large and accommodating seats. There is even an upgrade option for Comfort seats.
The recommended BMW X5 engine is the large 3.0-litre diesel. It comes in different power levels. The least powerful is the smooth and quiet 30d version while the M50d has the most explosive acceleration and triple the turbo. In addition, there is also a four-cylinder diesel and a hybrid version for the economy. There is also a high-end 4.4-litre V8 gas model which is the biggest gas guzzler of the lot.
The X5 should be driven in the Auto eDrive (hybrid) mode for maximum gas efficiency. The X5 xDrive35d is more fuel efficient. The top fuel saver is the diesel but it does not have an eco-friendly cachet of a plug-in hybrid.
Cons. The original BMW X5 was the best car to drive in its class. However, the new X5 has an overly firm suspension and has less than precise steering.
The BMW X5 2017 does not feature a luxurious dashboard like most of its top rivals. Additionally, it has less legroom in the second row. Its option third-row seats were complained to be too tight even for children.
What's New? The BMW X5 now has a Wi-Fi hot spot as well as a wireless charging pad. However, the car no longer has its four-wheel or Active Steering option.
Models. The cheapest base model is the sDrive25d SE diesel. The xDrive40e SE hybrid is the most gas efficient. The X5M gas is the sportiest and fastest model. The most popular and best-selling model is the xDrive30d M-Sport diesel.
Pricing. The 2017 BMW X5 has an MSRP of $68,820. Its top rivals are the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, the Porsche Cayenne, and the Range Rover Sport.
Overall, the X5 is a keeper. It drives like any of BMW's excellent sports sedans but it is roomier. It is also stylish, flexible, and no doubt one of the top rated SUVs overall.
