"Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi" is set to release at the end of the year. The previous installment, "The Force Awakens," left many fans wondering about Rey's origin. A lot of fans were convinced she was a Skywalker but the latest Star Wars news seems to say otherwise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a sneak footage shown to Disney shareholders last week showed the possible opening scene of "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi." The scene showed Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) ask Rey (Daisy Ridley) "Who are you?" She is then seen wielding a lightsaber. This is according to Daniel Miller from the Los Angeles Times who was at the event.
We just saw more "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" footage. In it, Luke asks Rey, "Who are you?" Then we see her deftly handle a lightsaber.

Moreover, Miller also noted that Chewbacca, General Leia Organa, and Finn also make appearances in the footage. As a final note, the reporter adds that the footage featured several exotic and epic settings including mountains, oceans, forests, and deserts.
Upon hearing the latest Star Wars news, many fans couldn't help but wonder if this means Luke isn't Rey's father after all. Previously, it was reported that Luke was the likely choice for Rey's father considering that Ridley revealed that "The Force Awakens" made it very clear who her parents were.
While the newest reveal might have many diehard Rey Skywalker fans disappointed, this does not mean that she could no longer be a Skywalker. Another report by Movie Pilot provided that maybe Luke is trolling Rey similar to how Yoda trolled him about who his father was. While this theory is far-fetched, Disney CEO Bob Iger gives more hope with his comment. Iger stressed that the movies are also known as "the Skywalker saga," and this is particularly the case in the upcoming "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi."
Another important Star Wars news tidbit was pointed out by a Reddit user. HypersonicHarpist commented that it would be odd if that were the opening scene because the script notes in "The Force Awakens" explicitly say that "He doesn't need to ask who she is or why she's there." This is in reference to the last scene when Luke and Rey see each other at Ahch-To.
Several other Reddit users were not convinced that the new scene was enough to throw out the Rey Skywalker theory. It is more likely that Disney is trolling Star Wars fans or that they showed extra scenes that will not make it to the final cut of the movie.
