The all-new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will be making its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week. The automaker's family friendly SUV will fill the gap between the compact version and the Touareg.
An extended wheelbase and a larger cargo space separate the Tiguan from its smaller Tiguan siblings. The model's wheelbase measures 4.3 inches longer, and its whole length extends another by 8.5 inches compared with the smaller Tiguan. Maximum cargo space is 67.8 cubic feet in five-seat configurations.
The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will be available in either front-wheel or all-wheel-drive. The brand new SUV also features styling that closely mirrors the larger Atlas SUV that is expected to arrive in U.S. dealerships this spring.
Up front, the crossover is a new radiator grille with chrome trim strips that expands across the front and into the headlights. The roof is extended for the optional panoramic sliding sunroof, and roof rails are now standard.
Volkswagen exterior designer, Marco Pavone, said in a statement, "We have designed the rear doors of the Tiguan Allspace to be longer. The bonnet was also raised up at the front above the radiator grille to adapt the proportions to the longer overall length." A very unique, formative line accentuates the side window design that rises behind the C-pillar."
VW will offer the new SUV in Europe with six different engines. Three are gasoline, and three are diesel engines. The automaker has not yet announced which engine will arrive in the U.S. but given VW's recent violations of U.S. diesel emission rules, it is expected only to be sold with gasoline engines.
In addition, it will also come in three trim levels. Trendline is the base model that comes with standard roof railings, a connectivity package that features a phone and USB interfaces. Comfortline adds silver roof rails, power lift tailgate and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. Lastly, Highline trims come with LED headlights, three-zone climatronic control, keyless access and engine start.
The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace start at $31,500 in Europe. The U.S. model goes on sale in the summer.
