2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Sports Wider Tires, Aerodynamic Features, & A Beastlier Performance To Match

The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE is finally the company's ultimate Camaro and it will surely take your breath away. It is an addition of a high-performance package to an already powerful and beastly vehicle with added upgraded aerodynamic features. Let peel the skin off of this beauty.

You might be wondering what the 1LE stands for. To put simply, the 1LE package adds "track-ready" features like those of the V6 and V8 Camaros, tuning up the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE up to 11. Relatively, it addresses the shortcomings of the ZL1. 

Engine. Similar with other ZL1 models, it is still powered by the Corvette Z06-derived 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that delivers 650 horses and 650 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the ground via a six-speed manual transmission, although a 10-speed auto is an option.

Wheels and tires. It is dressed in the widest tires offered to a production Camaro: a 305mm for the front and 325mm for the rear. But these are rather lighter and smaller by an inch in diameter, with wider aluminum wheels.  Digital Trends reports that according to Chevy, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R summer-only tires were developed specifically for 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE in order to help generate up to 1.10 g of lateral grip.

Suspension. Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve shock absorbers found in Chevy Colorado ZR2 off-road truck and the previous Camaro Z/28 were used for the front and rear of the Camaro ZL1 1LE. Also, front-end ride height and the rear stabilizer bar are both adjustable and the springs are stiffer.

Aerodynamic upgrades. Based on the teaser video below, you can notice immediately a number of aerodynamic upgrades to the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. Contributing to the real downforce thus aiding in reducing the car's lap time are the race-ready front splitter and dive planes and a giant carbon fiber wing.

Relatively, they help the Camaro stick to the track. The wing has hollow supports and provides 300 lb of downforce at top speed, according to FoxNews. Up front of the 1LE, the massive wing is complemented by a revised grille and some new canards.

Weight. Other than the aerodynamic upgrades, the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE also lost some weight, by around 60 lbs thanks to a lighter back seat. The lost weight is also due to aluminum wheels, thinner rear glass, and lighter shocks.

Speed. So, the combined aerodynamic upgrades plus weight loss brings the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE 3 seconds faster compared with the standard ZL1 at the GM "Lutzring" Milford Proving Ground test track, despite having exactly the same drivetrain.

Chevrolet plans to release the beastly ZL1 1LE later in 2017. The pricing will then be announced when the launch date is nearer.
