The 2017 Subaru Forester packs an updated look and new features and improves the already solid foundation. However, the SUV still faces stiff competition from both Japanese and American automakers.
According to Providence Journal, the 2017 Subaru Forester achieves a level of technological advancement that makes it safer and better performer than before. The Forester 2.0XT is equipped with 250-horsepower, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 258 pound-feet of torque. The cylinders lie flat on both sides of the crankshaft, which contributes to a lower center of gravity that aids the handling of the crossover.
All models have four-wheel drive and they come with a continuously variable automatic transmission, which can be shifted manually with paddles on the steering wheel. Forester 2.0XT also comes with Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system. It includes adaptive cruise control that automatically maintains a set distance from the car ahead. It also has pre-collision braking that will stop the vehicle if it detects an imminent collision.
There is also lane-departure warning and mitigation that steers a wandering vehicle back into its lane. There is reverse automatic braking if an object is detected, rear cross-traffic alert, sway warning, automatic headlight high beams, and blind-spot warning. There are some off-road presets too. There is hill descent control that maintains downhill speeds at 12 miles an hour, and the X-Mode reduces wheel slip by automatically adjusting engine and transmission response below 18 miles an hour.
Inside the cabin, there is plenty of head room and leg room at the front and the rear seats. There is 32 cubic feet space of cargo, but it can grow up to 69 cubic feet when the rear seats are flipped down.
Digital Trends reported that the 2017 Subaru Forester 2.0XT Touring starts at $34,295 before adding optional packages like EyeSight and Starlink navigation system, which together cost an additional $1595. The price drops significantly on the lower trim levels. However, if you want all-wheel-drive stability and turbocharged motor, the 2017 Subaru Forester 2.0XT Touring is a solid option.
