As the 2017 NBA trade deadline draws near, the teams have been busy eyeing for players to trade for their finals roster. And the Detroit Piston's Reggie Jackson is no stranger to all these, despite being told last month by Stand Van Gundy that he will not be traded.
ESPN reports that the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic are in trade talks. According to the report, they are eyeing on exchanging point guard Reggie Jackson for two players: guard D.J. Augustin and forward Jeff Green. However, it hasn't been officially confirmed as of this writing that the deal would take off past the discussion stage.
The Pistons and Magic have discussed a trade that would send Reggie Jackson to Orlando for D.J. Augustin and Jeff Green, league sources say.

But if this deal does go through, and that is a big "if," the Detroit Pistons will have to add one more player to make it work, salary-wise. Among these "possible" players to join Jackson if and only if the trade between the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic pushes through are Boban Marjanovic and center Arron Baynes. However, note that neither of these players was part of the deal, but the deal isn't complete yet.
On a financial perspective, the Detroit Pistons would have to drop Reggie Jackson's remaining 3 years and a $51 million contract. They would need to add this to D.J. Augustin's deal. Meanwhile, as for Jeff Green, since he is on a one-year contract ($15 million), the Pistons could just let him off if the deal is off.
But if you look at it, trading Reggie Jackson for Orlando Magic's Augustin would seem really low on Jackson, according to CBS Sports. This would be insufficient for a player with his talent. Yes, he has not been performing 100% since his comeback from a persistent knee tendinitis.
Despite this, the Detroit Pistons still able to have a not-so-bad start with 11-10 when Reggie Jackson was out to start the season. Van Gundy said, "Reggie came back and we've struggled ever since."
But the team is still high on the Jackson-Drummond combination for the training camp. Drummond even said, "The way they came at Reggie wasn't cool." He defended his best friend, "You can't beat a guy up for not playing at 100 percent right after coming back. Guys who have played with pain -- you think they would be more sensitive."
There is only a little bit of upside trading Detroit Piston's Reggie Jackson to Orlando Magic. But we will have to wait until the 2017 NBA trade deadline to find out if the Pistons do go through with the deal and what the Magic plans with Jackson if they acquire him.
