German sports car manufacturer Porsche has been constantly working on evolving their 911 sports cars for the better. The 2017 Porsche 911 GTS sports car lives up to the company's reputation of providing a thrilling and engaging drive.
The 2017 Porsche 911 GTS. The 911 GTS is the newest member of the family to date. It is a vehicle specifically designed for those who seek a ride that doesn't necessarily have to be on a track car. The GTS will be offered in three body styles namely the Carrera, Cabriolet, and Targa which will be the style that is an all-wheel drive.
Aside from the aesthetic differences, the trims also vary in weight with the light manual transmission Carrera GTS tipping the scales at 3,197 pounds. The heaviest is the Targa 4 GTS at 3,539 pounds.
The GTS gives you value for what it is worth. The base-trim Carrera is able to churn out 370 horsepower at US$90,450. The Carrera S, on the other hand, gives out 420 horsepower and is priced at US$104,450. The 450 horsepower engine comes priced at US$120,050 and next to that would be US$160,250 for a 540-horsepower Turbo.
The horsepower comes from the 3.0-liter standard twin-turbocharged flat-six engine. It is paired with a seven-speed manual transmission or the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which is also called the PDK.
One particularly significant enhancement to the GTS over previous models is the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management, or PSM, which improves handling and ride thanks to a continuous electronic damping control system.
The GTS features 20-inch wheels wrapped with 245/35-20 front tires and 305/30-20 rear tires. It borrows its brake pads from the 911 Turbo and sports red multi-piston aluminum calipers and larger brake rotors. Rear-axle steering helps with turn-in and high-speed stability although it is only optional.
Its cabin is comfortable and is in a generous size. It is quite roomy for a 2-door sports car actually. The same goes for its cargo space. It features standard Sports Seats with Alcantara upholstery and a slightly smaller GT Sport steering wheel also wrapped in Alcantara upholstery.
With regard to which GTS model is the best, it basically all boils down to preference. One thing is for sure though; every model is what you would expect from a high-performance sports car - great driving experience.
