Small diesel Jaguar vehicles have long been available in Europe. Now, they're making their way into America and the XF is one example.
The 2017 XF 20D R-Sport. The XF is the mid-size luxury vehicle that runs on diesel. Diesel vehicles are supposed to come less expensive than ones that run on gasoline but the XF is far from being considered cheap. In actuality, it basically boils down to taste and preference.
The XF, just like any other diesel vehicle, is able to provide more than the usual torque and just the right fuel mileage. However, just like any other diesel vehicle, it lacks horsepower. In addition, the throttle is less responsive than what one is normally used to and a diesel vehicle is heavier than most due to higher cylinder pressures which require a stouter structure.
The Jaguar XF is able to churn out only 180 horsepower at 4,000 revolutions per minute and 318 pound-feet of torque with its 2.0-liter I-4 diesel engine. The torque is what really works in propelling the XF. However, the in-house designed four-cylinder engine is a lot noisier than other 2.0-liter turbodiesel engines such as the Audi's 2.0-liter TDI which has a little less torque but is a lot quieter. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
With regard to fuel economy, the XF is able to go 30 miles per gallon in city driving. On the highway, it is able to go up to 40 miles per gallon. It has been claimed that the XF can go from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 8.4 seconds although one might feel that it is quicker to get to this speed actually driving the vehicle.
The 2017 Jaguar XF retails at a base price of US$49,245.00. It can go up to as much as US$68,195 with additional features.
