It seems that Microsoft is exploring more from technology advancement to create a mobile phone that can unfold into a tablet. The recent patent application submitted by Microsoft hints on a foldable Surface phone/tablet.
The patent application of Microsoft for its new device was revealed on Monday unveiling the company's attempt to create a smartphone that can unfold to form a tablet. MSPoweruser first learned about the patent fillings which shows that the new device from Microsoft sports a flexible hinge in between two bodies.
Looking at the diagram, one can spot a smartphone with a double body and huge displays. Noticeably, there is a flexible hinge connecting the two. The diagram also reveals that once the device is folded over, it turns into a tablet form.
The patent has enlisted Kabir Siddiqui as the inventor of the new device. According to The Verge, Siddiqui is the same inventor of Microsoft's Surface camera angle and Surface kickstand.
The publication also noted that rumors have been circulating that Microsoft is contemplating on introducing a Surface Phone this year. The patent further hyped up the speculations that the company is indeed in the stage of developing a new Surface Phone and it seems that Microsoft is about to surpass the expectations as it is set to launch a new device which will pose another milestone in the industry.

Meanwhile, IBT has noted that the diagram reveals that once the device is unfolded completely flat out, a large single display now forms into a tablet form. This feature offers uninterrupted view while reading or typing on the tablet configuration.
The report also mentioned that aside from Microsoft, other tech giants are also attempting to create such foldable smartphones. Rumors are also circulating that LG and Samsung will most likely introduce foldable smartphones later this year too.
