On the first-year anniversary of Xbox One Backwards Compatibility, launched on Nov. 12, 2015, Microsoft has announced the release of six new titles to add to its growing list of more than 100 games that are now playable on Xbox One. The whole month of November has been devoted by the company to celebrating this milestone, and the promise of even more games to come has hooked in exciting fans.
Microsoft issued a statement that seemed to serve as a glowing review of its Backwards Compatibility, saying the number of available titles on the program has more than doubled over the last year from an initial 100 to over 280 now. Phil Spencer, Xbox chief, told fans on Twitter that this month would see "top requests" being turned to reality, reported Mobile & Apps.
Holding true to his word, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, fan favorites, were released on the Xbox One Compatibility program earlier this month. Since then, EA's "Skate 3," Sega's "Guardian Heroes," Square Enix's "Scarygirl" and Codemasters' "Operation Flashpoint: Red River" have followed. OFP: Red River and both Mass Effects releases are discs only.
Spencer said the company was "thrilled" with the warm reception to the backwards compatibility feature, which enables Xbox 360 games to work on Xbox One, as evidenced by "more than 210 million hours of gameplay logged."
He added that Xbox is looking forward to further expanding their range of Backward Compatibility games and that weekly updates are in store. Fans are already anticipating Microsoft's next move, keeping in mind that titles like "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" sit at the top of the list of most-requested games for the program.
According to Express, other top-requested titles that might find its way to Xbox One this year are Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Batman: Arkham City and GTA IV.
