Fiat 124 Spider: 50 Years Of Awesomeness
50 years ago, at the Turin Auto Show 1966, the Fiat 124 Spider was presented to the society. A perfect British roadster like the MG B of the time, or even Austin-Healey Sprite alternative. It was a car with a very simple approach, but effective: convertible, light, propulsion and fun. The successful Fiat 124 Spider sold well into the 80s, and in 2016 has reached the market a completely new second generation. This is how Fiat wanted to celebrate its 50th anniversary, according to The Malay Mail Online.
The Fiat 124 was initially sold with 1.5-liter, dual overhead cam four-cylinder powered by a carbureted two bodies. One engine produced a respectable 90 horsepower and allowed the sport reach 170 km / h. In 1970 it received a facelift, with new tires and redesigned hood, among other improvements. The Fiat 124 Spider has renovated again in 1972, accompanied by a new family of engines of 1.6 and 1.8 liters , from the Fiat 132. The more powerful 1.8 and rose to 118 hp, allowing the roadster to reach 185 km / h.
The classic evolved in the late 70s with new engines two liters of displacement, and lower power, some of them equipped with mechanical fuel injection. His power was at most 105 hp, but facing the US market, developed a curious version Volumex. The Fiat 124 Spider Volume used a 2.0-liter engine, supercharged by a volumetric compressor, a turbo-driven belt carrying its maximum output to 136 hp. The Fiat 124 Spider went out of production in 1985.
Fiat 124 Spider vs Mazda MX-5 Miata
In 2016, 31 years later, it comes to market the new Fiat 124 Spider, with Japanese DNA and made with Italian point. It is hugely based on the Mazda MX-5 Miata and therefore, people cant help but compare the two. The Mazda Miata and Fiat 124 Spider do share a lot of the same things, however, Fiat makes use of the turbocharged engine and Mazda offers the naturally aspirated. Underneath though they are almost the same and both are built in the same factory over in Japan.
However, the Miata had always been ahead of the Fiat. Things could change though just in time for its birthday as the Fiat 124 Spider is had done some upgrading and is even offering an incentive of $500, which is going to run until the end of November, according to Automobile.
