Mazda Motor Corporation has announced the start of production of the new Mazda MX-5 RF, which stands for Retractable Fastback, the retractable hardtop version of the popular Japanese roadster. Production began yesterday at the Ujina facilities near the headquarters of the brand in Hiroshima after the official price had also been revealed which will start at $31,555.
Exciting New Version
The Mazda MX-5 RF was introduced and shown to the public for the first time in the Hall of New York 2016 held last March surprising aficionados of its awesome new look. This exciting new version of the popular MX-5 line which will soon reach the 1 million mark in global production volume makes it one of the most hotly anticipated sports cars of the year. It combines the advantages of body coupe and Targa in a single model.
While the previous generation model featured a retractable hardtop version, the appearance of the roof once closed, did not have the classic coupé silhouette that this current version will have, a B pillar that extends over the rear as a buttress, as in ancient mid - engined sports. The only time the Mazda MX-5 had this silhouette was with the second generation coupe model, curiously called version Mazda Roadster Coupe, despite having a completely closed roof and was launched exclusively in Japan on 2003.

A new engine that will incorporate a new six-speed automatic transmission will only be available in North America.
The MX-5 RF will also have the same luggage capacity that of his brothers and will maintain a load volume of 130 liters, as well as the same interior and infotainment system it has.
