British automotive company Lotus is keeping the Evora line fresh with its new model, the Evora Sport 410. Revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the new Evora is lighter and more powerful than the Evora 400.
What does the number mean, anyway?
The number of the Lotus Evora Sport 410 simply means that it has 10 horses more than the Evora 400. Seriously, the 410 has a 3.5 liter supercharged V6 engine that churns out 410 horsepower, a top speed of 190 mph and 0-62 acceleration in just 3.9 seconds.
It is a successor to several of Lotus' iconic models, including the Esprit Sport 300, designed to deliver on the track and on the road. Lotus added performance-oriented wheels, tires, and an optional titanium exhaust system.
Unrivaled lightweight engineering
Lotus remains streets ahead in lightweight engineering and high-performance supercars. The new 410 is 150 pounds lighter compared to the regular Evora 400, the shaved weight is due to its new carbon-fiber panels for the roof, rear deck and front and rear valances. A lithium-ion main battery also saves 24.9 pounds, and the deletion of the rear seats, air-conditioning, stereo, rear bulkhead glass, sound insulation, door trims and mud flaps adds to its weight reduction. As already mentioned, it has an optional titanium exhaust system that, alone, sheds 22 pounds more. The overall reduction of weight also allows for optimized weight distribution, a huge contributor to the poise and balance of a sports car during high-speed cornering.
Lotus CEO, Jean-Marc Gales said, "To perfect a pure sports car, you must consider weight your enemy. Lose weight and you will make significant gains: harder and faster cornering, better braking, greater agility and responsiveness, along with faster acceleration."
Limited production and other options
The Evora 410's production will be limited to 150 cars per year and will drift onto U.S. shores in summer of 2017, though it is already on sale in Europe as well as other markets, according to Car Magazine UK. Lotus has also revealed that customers can personalize their Evora through the Lotus Exclusive Program; if need be, a touch-screen entertainment system can be installed should the customer specifies the need for connectivity and Bluetooth functionality.
Lotus in the future
Lotus believes that the benefits of reduced weight are enormous; this philosophy is why they continue to make lightweight cars. In fact, they are still setting benchmarks in intelligent lightweight engineering. This is their formula for success-remaining true to their roots.
