A spy cam caught a glimpse of the upcoming 2018 Ford F-150, a diesel-powered pick-up that has an engine courtesy of the Jaguar Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The pick-up was spotted with an open hood while an engineer was fixing wiring issues.
There had been several rumors circulating about what the 2018 Ford F-150 would look like and what upgrades it would offer to its loyal customers. As reported by Auto Blog, the vehicle was seen parked with an open hood while an engineer was working on the vehicle's wirings. This showed that the model may not be available as soon as pick-up enthusiasts anticipated.
The Specs
The said 2018 Ford F-150 model as caught by the spy cam was installed with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine that came straight from the Jaguar Land Rover. The said engine was said to be capable of 254 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. The said updates were described as better than the Ram EcoDiesel, its predecessor.
Old vs New
In other news, Consumer Reports revealed that the best-selling truck had been installed with upgrades relating to better power and swifter acceleration features. Compared to the 2018 Ford F-150 truck that the spy cam caught, its predecessor, the 2016 Ford F-150 model had already been lodged with a 10-speed automatic transmission, coupled with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, 375 hp, and an impressive 470 lb-ft of torque.
Although prices for the upcoming 2018 Ford F-150 truck had not been revealed as of writing, the 2017 version is lodged at $26,540 for its base price. With its EcoBoost V6 feature, it had been described as a competent tow vehicle. Furthermore, it has a more silent cabin and has greater payload capability such as a tailgate ladder and side mirror spotlights.
The brand new 2018 Ford F-150 was said to be available for purchase in the following months. With wiring issues spotted by the spy cam, the company has yet to further modifications for the engine to be ready.
