Online mobile photo and video sharing app Instagram released an update that can moderate the comments section.
Kevin Systrom, CEO and Co-Founder of Instagram posted on Instagram's Blog that they are making the comment moderation to "ensure Instagram remains a positive place to express yourself."
Part of the blog reads:
"The first feature we're introducing is a keyword moderation tool that anyone can use. Now, when you tap the gear icon on your profile, you'll find a new Comments tool. This feature lets you list words you consider offensive or inappropriate. Comments with these words will be hidden from your posts. You can choose your own list of words or use default words we've provided. This is in addition to the tools we've already developed such as swiping to delete comments, reporting inappropriate comments and blocking accounts."
This move by Instagram is due to the harsh, sexual and harassing comments found on some accounts, commonly on celebrities with millions of followers.

Almost every social media platform is subjected to this problem since almost everyone is permitted to leave their comments on the comments section.
Initially, this feature is released on high-follower-volume accounts, for getting feedback easily. After some weeks, it is now open for all accounts.
People are asking if Taylor Swift used this feature during the spat with the couple Kim and Kanye West, we don't know for sure but Swift is one that owns the largest amount of followers on the said network.
Instagram is also reported to launch an update that will enable users to totally turn off the comments for their posts. Like this comment filter update, this will first roll on high-volume accounts and will go live for every user after months.
In social media, the comment problems are inevitable, but good thing some networks is trying to pull off some ways in making it a lot safer.
