Carmen, a start-up company based in Singapore has developed an innovative device to help "smarten up" your vehicle, with the help of cloud technology. The Carmen makes use of a Diagnostic Reader which is installed in the car, and is compatible with your mobile phone through Bluetooth, and then analyzes information from your car through a specially made app, which then sends it to the cloud for evaluation purposes, thus giving you sufficient driving information straight from your smart phone in real time.
For instance, if your vehicle would be on the verge of breaking down from either a malfunctioning engine or low battery levels, the app installed on your mobile phone will notify you through a text message. The Carmen also allows you to retrieve and view your travel history via the online dashboard feature.
Should a breakdown in the middle of the road actually occur, future updates of the app would enable car owners to call a repair shop for towing and repair services? Despite these benefits, however, there's a minor drawback.
Carmen's new device, unfortunately, are only compatible with Nissan, Toyota, and Honda cars, and OBD ports which are needed for the app to work are only present in 2009 models and beyond for these brand of cars. Thailand, Indonesia, and other Asian countries have the most number of these brand of cars across the globe compared to others.
Australia is also set to be one of the future target markets of Carmen for their services. Prior to its launch in the said countries, services offered by Carmen are fully and easily accessible in its country of origin, Singapore.
This new device by Carmen will be out in the markets next month, and will sell for around AU$120 or $90, and after a year of use, annual dues of $30 have to be paid in order to make use of their services for cloud analytics.
