Does Chevrolet already need an updated Corvette Z06?
Apparently they do, as the General Motors unit unveiled a refurbished model on Friday called the 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition.
As an homage of sorts to the modern C7.5 racer, Chevy will release 500 of the limited edition vehicles with a few new and exciting enhancements.
We're a fan of the new black wheels with Corvette Racing logo center caps and the spectra gray metallic grille looks great, but we're most excited for the new Corvette Racing Yellow tintcoat.
Call us crazy, but the paint option gives the car a different feel. Not only will owners be driving a vehicle that features a 650-horsepower supercharged LT4 engine and Chevrolet's Z07 performance package but the yellow paint option really makes the new Vette look like a menacing racecar that you wouldn't want to mess with.
Chevy's Z07 package adds Brembo carbon ceramic brake rotors to the Z06 C7.R for improved handling, along with Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tires and adjustable aero components, according to GM.
In the event you forget that the Z06 C7.R is a limited-edition model, Chevy is putting unique vehicle identification numbers inside all vehicles, starting with 700001.
"I think the biggest news is the C7.R special edition has its own VIN sequence, and we will only produce 500 of them total," Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran said to AutoWorldNews. "That will make this a very collectable, very sought-after special edition."
Doran also confirmed to us that GM will announce the base price for the C7.R and start accepting orders this May, so stay tuned for more details.
