Ford is getting set to introduce a pair of new apps for the AppLink component of its Sync in-car infotainment system at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show next week.
The apps, Life 360 and AccuWeather, are launching alongside the updated Sync 3 system according to the automaker.
Ford says that its Life360 app will help drivers keep their eyes on the road while driving. By offering the app, Ford will become the first automaker to offer Life360 with Drive Mode.
Launched in 2008, the app has been reworked to integrate the Drive Mode for Ford vehicles that are SYNC AppLink-enabled, according to Ford.
AccuWeather's new MinuteCast will also available for all Ford SYNC AppLink customers. The new technology works by using an exact street address or GPS location to provide minute-by-minute weather forecasting.
MinuteCast is also designed to provide precipitation type, intensity and duration to the driver.
"The new integration of AccuWeather for Ford SYNC AppLink will bring our customers the most up-to-date weather information while on the road," said Julius Marchwicki, Ford Connected Services Product manager in a company statement. "The system is easy to use, and with the addition of MinuteCast, drivers will get minute-by-minute forecasts for up to two hours to help them make safer driving decisions during bad weather."
Ford currently offers Sync Hands-Free Calling, Sync Entertainment which allows users to search for music and Sync AppLink which lets Ford owners use their voice to control their favorite mobile apps.
The new apps will be available in places like the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland and Japan.
Both apps will debut at CES next week during the 2015 International CES being held Jan. 6-9 in Las Vegas. Life360 should become available alongside Sync 3 and the AccuWeather app will launch later on this year.
