A bill signed into law by Florida governor Rick Scott back in April reportedly bans all electronic devices state-wide.
The law was designed to ban Internet cafes in an attempt to crack down on illegal gambling, forcing over 1,000 Internet cafes to close.
"This law will affect everyone here," said Johnny Figueria, manager of the Tropicana Bingo & Arcade in Florida. "There are people who come here in the morning to play bingo and then stay later to play the machines until their son comes to pick them up, so they won't be home alone."
One café owner is now suing Florida however claiming her lawyers noticed an issue with the bill.
A copy of the complaint, which was obtained by The Miami Herald, shows that the definition given to slot machines in the law would end up outlawing all computers and smartphones, which can be used to browse for slow machines on the internet according to Time.
"The Florida Legislature rushed to pass broad - sweeping amendments to existing statutes that violate the United States Constitution in a frenzy fueled by distorted judgment in the wake of a scandal that included the Lieutenant Governor's resignation," reads the suit filed on behalf of Incredible Investments, LLC in Miami-Dade County.
The bill says that slot machines are "any machine or device or system or network of devices" that could be used in a "game of chance."
No one has been arrested for owning a computer or cell phone in Florida as of press time according to Time.
"The Legislature and governor acted with dizzying speed, leaving many questions as to the law's impact and how the centers known as Internet cafes would react," said the Associated Press this past spring. "The ban is also expected to directly affect adult amusement arcades that cater to senior citizens.
