The 2014 BMW i3 electric vehicle will be sold in the low-to-mid $40,000 range according to Edmunds. The pricing doesn't include federal tax credit of $7,500.
"The base price of the i3 in the U.S., not including the tax incentive, will be in the low-to-mid-$40,000s," said David Buchko, a BMW spokesman according to Edmunds.
Buchko said he couldn't confirm the price yet but did reveal some of the specs for the new model.
The i3 will come with a 650cc two-cylinder gasoline engine capable of delivering 34 hp. The engine reportedly increases the vehicle's range to "160-180 hp" according to BMW.
The company has not said how much home-charging stations will cost for the i3, but they're expecting the price to fall between $2,000 to $3,000 for basic installation.
The automaker was able to confirm that it will not be launching a network of charging stations similar to the Supercharger network Tesla Motors announced earlier this year.
"BMW won't be investing in charging stations, per se," said Buchko according to Edmunds.
Charging stations will be provided at BMW dealerships and it will take approximately 4 hours for the vehicle to charge up completely.
The EPA has not released official fuel economy numbers for the i3 as of press time.
BMW is reportedly entering into "a far-reaching partnership in the electricity field to ensure premium charging solutions are available" for the i3 according to BMW.
Expect the new car to go on sale during the second quarter of 2014.
