Mitsubishi Motors North America unveiled the brand-new fuel-efficient 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage 5-door subcompact at the 2013 New York International Auto Show this week.

The new model will officially be available in showrooms by this fall according to a company press release.

The company also announced plans for the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander compact CUV at the show, and demonstrated a "full-scale cutaway" vehicle that is scheduled to be released this coming June.

A lot is expected out of the new Mirage, including an estimated fuel economy of 40 mpg combined, 37 mpg of in city driving, and 44 mpg of highway driving. Mitsubishi stated that the new model will not only be stylish, but also the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid gasoline vehicle in the U.S. according to a company press release.

Customers can expect more room inside the new Mirage as well, as the five-door vehicle is expected to seat five passengers.

Standard features found in the Mirage include seven air bags, active stability control with traction control logic, brake assist and hill start assist, power windows with driver's side auto-up/down, and electric power steering.

Optional features include navigation with rearview camera, LED interior illumination packages, and parking assist.

Mitsubishi Outlander:

The seven-passenger model is expected to be one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles available with an estimated 31 mpg of highway driving.

The new Outlander PHEV is powered by a unique hybrid drivetrain that combines the innovative 100% electric-powered componentry including a pair of 60 kW (80-bhp) electric motors that have been reconfigured for the Outlander application as well as a proven lithium-ion drive battery pack according to Mitsubishi.

All models will come equipped with standard features like Super All-Wheel control and three distinct driving modes (EV, Series Hybrid, and Parallel Hybrid).

Expect the new model to start appearing in showrooms in early 2014.

The Outlander will have a starting price of $23,995 according to a company press release.
