Rolls-Royce presented their newest model, the Rolls Royce Wraith, at the New York International Auto Show yesterday, Mar. 27, according to a company press release.
The new model was shown off at the Geneva Motor Show last month, but the N.Y. show is the first time it's been unveiled in America.
The company has high hopes for the new model as they called it their "most powerful" vehicle ever produced during a press conference at the event.
"We believe Rolls-Royce Wraith is the car our great founding forefather and adventurer The Honourable Charles Rolls would have driven were he alive today," said Torsten Muller-Otvos, CEO Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in a company press release. "And that is why I am proud to present this beautiful two-tone Wraith in New York today. This nation was built on a pioneering spirit and sense of adventure and that's why I have no doubt the United States will be Wraith's most enthusiastic market in the years ahead."
The Wraith wanted their newest vehicle to "stand apart" from their Ghost lineup, but the new car features a number of similarities to its predecessor, including a V-12 engine. The new model can go 0 to 60 in just 4.4 seconds flat thanks to its 563-horsepower.
The V12 is mated by an eight-speed automatic transmission that is linked up to a GPS satellite and map data according to a company press release. The new technology helps the vehicle anticipate the drivers next move based on location and current driving style. The vehicle will then select the appropriate gear to shift into.
"The most powerful Rolls-Royce in history, Wraith promises the sense of adventure and speed that drove our founding forefather. But of course, Wraith's starting point is luxury, refinement and quality, traits that remain as important to Rolls-Royce customers today as they were more than a century ago," said Muller-Otvos according to a company press release.
Voice activation commands have also improved for the new vehicle, with technologies like one-touch button, which is located on the steering wheel. The cabin will include "Phantom Grade" leathers and an open-pore wood finish called Canadel Paneling according to the press release.
The starting price for the new vehicle according to Rolls-Royce is $318,000 and will be released before the end of the year.
"The BMW Group today reconfirms its full commitment to the future of Rolls-Royce. Growth and a prosperous future lie ahead thanks to continued investment, careful brand stewardship and the launch of ground-breaking new models like Rolls-Royce Wraith, a magnificent addition to the product range," said Rolls-Royce Chairman and BMW Group board member Harald Kruger at last month's Geneva show.
