Subaru of America, Inc. revealed the 2018 Subaru Legacy midsize sedan at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. The new model featured revised styling and many upgrades to safety, comfort, and multimedia capability.
The automaker's 2018 model is the roomiest sedan in the midsize segment. It's available on a 2.5i model with an efficient and responsive 175-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine, or, the Legacy 3.6R with a 256-hp 3.6-liter 6-cylinder boxer engine.
Both of the engines come as standard with the Lineartronic CVT that comes with manual mode and paddle shift control switches. The 2.5i will be offered in standard, Premium, and Sport trims.
In addition, all models will come exclusively with AWD, a company signature that can give 100 percent of power to a wheel as needed. But the automaker hasn't yet given the car's fuel economy figures.
Subaru also equipped the 2018 Subaru Legacy with more sound-absorbing panels under the car's body and fitted an insulated glass to the front side windows. It's matched with a big improvement in in-car tech to improve the car's driver experience. The company added stitching to the car's dashboard on Premium and above trim levels, and high-gloss black trim and silver-tinted bezels.
On the technology side, a new center stack mixes a choice of screens with all-new infotainment system shared with the 2017 Subaru Impreza. Aside from the different navigation software provided by TomTom, the systems also now have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and several built-in apps such as Magellan cloud-based navigation system.
The automaker will also offer the 2018 model with black, tan, and gray interior color shades. Base models come with a 6.5-inch screen, while a faster 8.0-inch screen serves as an upgrade.
On the safety side, the 2018 Subaru Legacy offers Eyesight package of automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist. Limited models come with new LED headlights with automatic high beams that curve with steering wheel inputs.
