Ford revealed this weekend that they will launch be launching its Operation Goodwill Southern California in partnership with the Ford Motor Company Fund and local California dealerships. Ford has promised a personal investment of $1 million from not until December 2013 for charitable organizations and community proposals throughout southern California.
The announcement was made during the Red Cross Youth Run for Prepare SoCal with actor Josh Duhamel this past weekend. The run was a two-mile race on the Santa Monica Beach in an effort to bring attention to "disaster preparedness" and "raise money for relief efforts" according to the Ford press release.
"The launch of our Operation Goodwill Southern California partnership with our local dealers allows us to further strengthen our relationship with valued nonprofit partners such as the American Red Cross," said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services according to a company press release. "We are investing $1 million in the education, health and safety of our community here in Los Angeles during the next year."
Donations for Operation Goodwill are targeted to support education, safety, and health according to Ford. The company is one of the only organizations in the Red Cross Disaster Responder program that pledges donations on a consistent basis to help disaster victims regardless of their income.
Ford will also be donating to Transit Connect van to the American Red Cross to help assist the organization during disasters. With the van, the Red Cross can deliver backpacks to students who live in Los Angeles, C A according to the press release.
"The American Red Cross is grateful for the generous support Ford Fund is providing to the PrepareSoCal Youth Run," said Julie Tomas, chief executive officer, American Red Cross of Santa Monica to the company press release. "Hurricane Sandy has taught us that in the first days after a major disaster, we and our neighbors will most likely be the first responders. Ford's involvement in the PrepareSoCal Youth Run will make a difference in the preparedness of our community throughout southern California."
Other initiatives that the Ford Fun will be assisting with include mobile health clinics to provide free medical checkups to elementary students in select California counties. Workshops will also be provided to underserved Hispanic communities through the Alliance for a Better Community to help parents become more knowledgeable about their education system.
