The new 2013 Buick Encore small crossover vehicles are schedules to hit dealerships by early 2013 and will feature some of the same characteristics that define larger Buick models.
With refined characteristics like new technology and more space inside the vehicle, the car shows that designers tried building a vehicle with the customer in mind.
"Our goal in developing Encore was two-fold - to design a vehicle that sets a refinement standard in the segment for customers who are new to Buick, and to deliver a vehicle that current Buick customers interested in downsizing can get in and feel at home," said Jim Danahy, Encore chief engineer in a company press release. "Active Noise Cancellation technology is a smart way to maximize luxury, space and efficiency together."
The Encore is the first Buick to include a Bose Active Noise Cancellation system. The system uses small microphones to "gather and analyze sound information" which is then used to put out "noise-cancelling" sound waves through the cabin of the vehicle according to the press release.
Buick stated that they worked with Bose engineers to use Encore's existing in-vehicle speakers, including a subwoofer which has been designed to fit in the middle of the Encore's spare tire. This enables the driver of the vehicle to have as much space as possible in the vehicle while also saving fuel.
"Noise Cancellation is just part of a broader refinement strategy for Encore," said Danahy in the press release. "We developed unique urethane spring isolators and hydraulic front ride bushings for handling characteristics that are both sporty and luxurious. We also made aerodynamic changes to smooth the air traveling around the car and quieted specific components like the alternator. Even the tires are Quiet Tuned."
The QuietTuning system features aero-optimized outside mirrors, foam baffles that insulate the opening of the body structure, and sound-absorbing materials in the cabin, under the hood, and wheel house liners according to the press release.
The new five seat Buick Encore comes with a standard six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The vehicle will be on sale in early 2013 for a starting price of $24,950.
